Swine flu cases in Greece reach 162

The Acropolis, Athens

The Greek health ministry has reported that the number of people affected by the H1N1 strain in the country has now escalated to 162, Dnevnik daily reported on June 7.

On June 6, there were six new confirmed cases of young people aged seven to 30 - two Greeks and five, British citizens - who had arrived in Greece for their summer holidays.

The Greek authorities say that of the 162 cases, 70 so far have been treated successfully and released. Medical reports have tried to calm the situation in the country, indicating that in spite of the rise of cases of the strain, "the situation is under control and there is no need for panic".

Meanwhile, to help combat the situation in Bulgaria, within a week, new thermal cameras will be installed at Bulgarian airports to help the authorities monitor people arriving in the country, and assist them in detecting carriers of the H1N1 stain.

Most of the infected patients in Greece, like those in Bulgaria, are people who arrived from abroad, particularly from the United States.
