Unemployment in Bulgaria is 6.3 per cent – National Statistics Institute

Unemployment in Bulgaria was 6.3 per cent in the second quarter of 2009, a worsening picture, according to figures released by the National Statistics Institute on August 21 2009.
 
A total of 222 600 people were without jobs in Q2 2009, the institute said, an increase of 0.5 per cent over the figure for the equivalent period last year.
 
In cities, unemployment averaged 5.5 per cent and in villages nine per cent.
 
The overall unemployment figure covers people aged 15 to 64. The proportion of people employed in the private sector was 72.7 per cent.
