A driver who failed to stop when signalled by police, and subsequently had to be chased for another 200 metres before finally stopping, was found to be driving without documentation. When he attempted to bribe the patrol with 100 euro, he was arrested, Dnevnik daily reports on September 24.

The incident occurred late on September 22 at 10.30pm when a police patrol conducted a routine check and attempted to stop an Opel driven by a 29-year-old male. The vehicle failed to stop and a short chase ensued.

The driver, a native of Krushevitsa village, failed to produce any documentation, but instead offered the two policemen two 50 euro banknotes. The man was promptly arrested and driven to the Dolni Dubnik precinct where he will be held for 72 hours.

The precinct's police commissioner Stefan Petrov has given the two police officers a reward of three additional days of paid leave. He has submitted his official request to the municipal interior ministry directorate in Pleven, Dnevnik has said.

It is the second time officers from this precinct have refused bribes within a month, Petrov has said. On September 16, a patrol refused a bribe and also arrested the driver.

Were they genuine 50 euro notes ?

It could be that the police arrested him for offering them counterfeit currency !

This is a joke!!

They get rewarded with extra leave for doing their job like any other EU state Policeman, possibly with the exception of Romania.

any policeman that takes a bribe should lose his job, pension and go to jail.

Not be rewarded if they don't.

You see the problem here. Not so much the Police officer refused which is commendable but rather the General perception or expectation that it had to made in the first place.
