ZZ Top performed its first concert in Bulgaria on October 21 2009, in Sofia's Stadion Akademik as part of its Double Down Live tour.

The US rock trio was formed in late 1969 in Houston, Texas, by Billy Gibbons (lead vocals and lead guitar), Dusty Hill (vocals, bass, and keyboards), and Frank Beard (drums)

Their recognisable musical style, taking a hard-rock approach to boogie and blues, lyrics that cover topics ranging from fast cars to fishnet stockings, sharp clothes, TV dinners, cheap sunglasses and "tush," combined with their biker-frontiersmen image of sunglasses, cowboy hats, black leather clothing and long beards, have earned the band a loyal following over the four decades the group has been together.

Upon the band's arrival in Bulgaria, only hours before their concert, the group was welcomed by a biker convoy from motorclub Bad Company, which included some of Sofia's most extravagant choppers.

On the cool spring morning of my arrival, about 6am, Belgrade was not awake yet and the only sounds came from occasional trams. The building of the train station, glowing in a warm yellow at sunrise, indeed reminded me of
