Manchester United fans vote Berbatov player of the month

Fans voted Bulgarian international Dimitar Berbatov as Manchester United's player of the month in a recent poll on ManUtd.com, the club's website said on November 11 2009.

The Bulgarian earned half of almost 3000 votes in the web poll, and was described as "instrumental" in United’s successes in October, beginning with the home win over Sunderland when he slotted home acrobatically to draw the Reds level for the first time in the match. In second place was Antonio Valencia with 37 per cent, followed by Anderson with six per cent, Edwin van der Sar with five per cent and Jonny Evans in fifth with two per cent.

Berbatov received the man of the match award for the crucial game against Bolton in which the Bulgarian failed to score but was nevertheless "essential for the victory".

"If you’re still struggling to understand how United left Stamford Bridge on Sunday without even a point, consider this: the Reds were forced to go into the top-of-the-table clash without October’s star performer," the club statement says.

"We can forget the visit to Anfield," the statement reads further, in reference to Liverpool's 2-0 league victory over arch-rivals on October 25. "Alex Ferguson later admitted only Edwin van der Sar and Antonio Valencia came anywhere near to showing what’s expected of a United player on that day".

Berbatov's subtle, spectacular passing is why United is still in the hunt. Watching him set up Rooney or Valenca on the attack is almost art!

Well done to him, I think he's gradually becoming a 'united' player and we saw how much we missed him at Chelsea

Well deserved! To those who call him a flop, you certainly have not seen United play this year. Berba and Rooney are in the form of their lives. Berba have been United's best player so far.

If the flop got the vote, imagine the rest of the players' performances.
