All 28 heads of regional agriculture and forestry services have been fired for widespread violations, including illegal real estate swap deals, Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naidenov told Parliament during question time on November 13 2009.

The move was not a politically-motivated purge, but was based on large-scale investigations into the work of the regional services.

The results of the probes have been sent to the office of Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev on November 12, Naidenov told Parliament.

Naidenov also said he wanted Velchev to query the Supreme Administrative Court whether his predecessors as agriculture ministers had the right to give deputy ministers the authority to allow such deals to happen.

Should the court rule that they did not, then all deals signed by former deputy agriculture ministers could be declared void.
