A bakery in Bulgaria was temporarily ordered to close because of potential health hazards, after pictures circulated on Facebook revealing that renovation work was occurring during production, Dnevnik daily reported on March 18 2010.

The regional inspectorate for quality control and health care in Gabrovo sent agents to the bakery in Dreyanovo and ordered it closed.

The inspectors came across pictures on the social network site Facebook revealing inadequate quality standards at the facility.

"Simultaneously, the inspectorate received an anonymous tip-off that renovation works were ongoing at the facility in parallel with the production of bread and other food stuffs," Doctor Nanyo Dimov, from the inspectorate, was quoted as saying.

When the authorities surveyed the facility, it was confirmed that, indeed, the bakery was undergoing renovation work. According to Dnevnik, inspectors "did not come across contamination, but ordered the facility closed preemptively nevertheless".

if the state takes a positive step, it gets sarcastic remarks. if it does not, it takes flak. if it is inactive, then the bulgarians are criticised by all the expats as filthy barbarians. one can never win against the progressive opinions of one's higly enlightened, civilised, and generally wholesome distant cousins from the albion.
why not simply be excited that someone, somewhere, somehow is doing the right thing? surely this is what we all want to see and this is the good governance people have been waiting for, albeit a spec of it. surely we should encourage [...]

dear ms hatton and, I should presume, mr cosmos, one cannot possibly entertain such thoughts as expressed in your comments, after having been brought up around an average english fish-and-chip shop (which is probably no longer english, but indian, pakistani or bangladeshi). I have every sympathy for you to have been expatriated from good old blighty and for having to endure the somewhat chaotic character of the eastern balkans, but I fail to see a measure of constructive input.

Why don't you just say 'because of photos on the internet'? Screw facebook.

@All
But anyway, it's not a bad statement to send, is it? I mean, we all want Bulgaria to change some parts.. and we have to start somewhere ;)

Jeesh. If you are going to close down Bulgarian eating establishments due to construction works, dust, filth and dirt that narrows it down to around 95% of all places. Next thing is you'll be banning hopscoth and conkers in schools.
