An 80-year-old mentally unstable recluse has had his flat raided and purged by neighbours in the seaside city of Varna, Bulgarian National Television (BNT) reported on July 28 2010.
Neighbours were complaining about the "unbearable" stench emanating from his flat. He had been collecting rubbish for years and neighbours suspected that he was also harbouring stray dogs and cats at his property, although they were uncertain of the actual number.
Fed up with his reluctance to dispose of accumulated trash, they raided the flat of Atanas Georgiev. They discovered 15 dogs, several cats, rats, and four trucks full of refuse.
"We got up at about 2am last night and went to his flat to check on him and he was bringing up the rubbish from outside back to his flat," Mihail Dimitrov, a neighbour, told the BNT.
"He said 'this is my merchandise and I want it back'". Dimitrov added. "We are chucking it out and he's bringing it back in. We will make sure this won't happen again".
"Why are they chucking it out? Why?" Georgiev kept asking his neighbours while the operation was ongoing.
"Well, what do you need all that rubbish for? Are you going to sell it or what?" a BNT reporter asked him
"I'll just bring it back inside," replied Georgiev.
Once the flat is cleared off the refuse, units from the hygiene inspectorate will be called in to dust the area for parasites.
Sounds like the man just wanted to make everyone happy and became accustomed to the smell at some point not realising that he was also causing unhappiness. He made a good point though- obviously there was a problem to begin with and it was only noticed when it was shoved with its aromas in someone elses face. Poor ickle woofers, eekers and meow meows. XX
It is top news because it is a landmark issue of how society can deprive a person of their property, invade their home and deny their right to happiness. Furthermore, it proves that old hermits need help!
