Bulgarian census – last day for online count

Today (February 9) is the last day for Bulgarians and foreigners to register themselves and participate in the online census. The service will end at midnight on February 9 2011.

Until now, about 2.6 million people have been counted. Misplaced rumours have been circulating that to participate in the census, people have to pay between 1.40 leva and seven leva. The rumours allegedly surfaced in the northeastern Bulgarian city of Rousse.

Those rumours are false and completely baseless, the National Statistics Institute (NSI) has said. The census is mandatory for everyone and absolutely free of charge, they said.

Between February 10 and February 28, the census will be made in the more traditional manner through households visits.

Authorities would like to stress that anyone who refuses to participate in the census, or "forgets", will be fined 120 leva.

The form is a bit too invasive for me, wanting to know how many electical items we have, etc, if we are here as tourists? Ideal info for burgalars to know! Some of it is ok, some of it is a invasion of privacy Article 8 of the human rights act.

The census guy came to ours with an english version, so we knew what questions we were answering, straight forward as he completed the form in Bulgarian, I dont see what the fuss is about.

I bought a property back in 2007 but despite paying the full price I find myself without title deeds and the developer is telling me that unless I reduce to price to less than 50 % of the price paid then as lawyers acting for the developer they will not issue my lawyer with the title deeds. I would like to obey the law and register but it is more proof that corruption and lawyers trying to avoid their obligations is standard practice as the law never seems to achieve anything in Bulgaria. Please do not tell me I need [...]

Read the full comment a lawyer. I have had two supposed to be good firms of lawyers and neither has been able to get me what I am entitles to . Has someone in authority got the answer as to how do I get my deeds as breaking the law seems the only way.I have filled in all the forms required by law and it has got me nowhere!

Well, amazing that you guys want "foreigners to register themselves and participate in the online census" , but then you should have put a little more effort in it and made an english translation of the nsi.bg website, to make it just a bit easier.

Cheers
