A 27-year-old British man was arrested at Slynchev Briyag (Sunny Beach) sea resort at 3.30 am on June 7 2011, Bourgas police reported, quoted by Focus news agency.

The man had arrived in Bulgaria on June 6 2011 and was staying at a hotel at the resort. He was very drunk and claimed to have called police to report on a quarrel and fight at the hotel he was staying in. It transpired that he was the cause of the trouble in the first place.

He subsequently resisted arrest.

Later the same night, at 5.20am, a 45-year-old woman, obviously drunk, acted violently in a shop and started a fight with a sales assistant.

The woman, also British, apparently hit a policeman who tried to arrest her.

The two tourists will spend 24 hours in custody.
