Bulgarians cut back travels in the second quarter of 2011, data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI) showed on August 22.

A total of 1.01 million Bulgarians travelled to domestic and foreign destinations between April and June, down 7.4 per cent year-on-year, according to preliminary figures.

The number of domestic trips fell by 8.9 per cent to 790 000. Travels abroad totalled 220 000 in the second quarter, or 1.4 per cent less than in the same period in 2010.

Most Bulgarians went on holiday or visited relatives during the period in question.

Average spending on personal and business trips in Bulgaria stood at 168.9 leva and 270.9 leva, respectively.

Travels overseas were costlier than trips across the country at 652.7 leva, while business trips abroad cost 1152.2 leva on average, according to the data.
