Bulgarians' trips abroad rise 20.9% Y/Y in Q3 2011

Bulgarians' trips abroad rose by 20.9 per cent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2011, while trips in the country dropped by 12.5 per cent, preliminary data by the National Statistics Institute (NSI) showed on November 21 2011.

In July-September, a total of 1.522 million Bulgarians travelled abroad or across the country.

As much as 70.2 per cent of the trips abroad in the quarter were for holiday, recreation and visits of relatives. The share of Bulgarians who travelled across the country for the same purpose stood at 64.6 per cent.

In the third quarter, people aged 25-44 represented the highest share of Bulgarians who travelled for private purposes, or 44.8 per cent. Business trips of Bulgarians aged 35-44 accounted for 42.3 per cent of the total.

Bulgarians spent 455 leva on average on trips in the country in July-September 2011, up from 390.4 leva in the same period of 2010, while foreign trips cost 844.3 leva on average.
