Romania has given final approval for the United States to build an anti-ballistic interceptor site in the country.
The Romania site represents part of the U.S. missile shield project, which is opposed by Russia.
In September, Romania and the U.S. entered into an agreement to allow construction of the interceptors at Deveselu air base on the country's border with Bulgaria.
President Traian Basescu on Thursday signed into law the the agreement reached between Romania and the United States.
The U.S. says the interceptors will allow it to respond more quickly to threats of short to medium-range missiles.
