A 49-year-old woman died and a man was injured in an explosion at an ammunition factory in the Bulgarian town of Gabrovo on January 11 2011, a day after three people were injured in an explosion at an ammunition factory elsewhere in the country.
The area around the Gabrovo factory was sealed off for investigation. Police said that there was no danger of a further explosion.
The man’s injuries were described as slight. He was being treated in hospital in Gabrovo.
The factory is in a wooded area, away from the main part of the town. Darik Radio said that the ammunition factory was owned by a private company which was part foreign-owned.
On January 10, three people were injured in an explosion at the Vazovski Mashinostroitelni Zavodi (VMZ) ammunition factory, the largest of its kind in Bulgaria. The three were treated in hospital and the incident was being investigated, reports said.
