It is completely realistic to expect that by the end of 2012 the bridge over the Danube River at Vidin – Calafat will be ready, Bulgaria’s minister in charge of European Union funds Tomislav Donchev has told European Commission officials, Bulgarian National Radio reported on February 15.
He said that so far, actual progress had reached 80 per cent, the report said.
Donchev said that the Bulgarian Government was determined to see the project completed by the end of 2012 and that in this case, the country would be able to use all available European funding.
His statement, made to journalists in Brussels, comes soon after a similar one after a meeting between Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister for Regional Development and Public Works, Nikolina Nikolova, and Romanian state secretary for foreign affairs Bogdan Aurescu.
After talks in Bucharest, the two were quoted in Romanian foreign ministry statement as saying that the Vidin – Calafat bridge could be completed by the end of the year and that other projects related to two new bridges across the Danube could be initiated in the new future, Romanian agency ACTMedia reported.
