Traffic on Danube Bridge grinds to a halt

Like Bulgaria and other Eastern European countries, Romania has seen heavy snowfalls in the past weeks.

An eight-kilometre queue of cars and trucks impeded traffic on the border between Romania and Bulgaria at the Danube Bridge check-point, Bulgaria's border police said on February 22.

Traffic at other checkpoints, including Dourankoulak and Vidin, was normal.

The queue, mostly made of cargo trucks, was on the Romanian side of the Danube River and the reason was slow processing of incoming traffic by Romanian border police, the statement said.

On the Bulgarian side, traffic was being halted before Rousse to prevent congestion, Focus news agency reported.
