Cake Story, the directorial debut of 27-year-old Bulgarian filmmaker Milko Yovchev, will screen at the European Independent Film festival between March 30 and April 1 in Paris.

The 52-minute film features in the student Film Category in a festival that aims to discover and promote young filmmakers worldwide.

Cake Story, starring Ivan Barnev and Dimcho Dimov, won the prize for best Bulgarian film at the Early Bird international film festival in 2011.

The story, set on New Year's Eve, tells of a man who braves the cold winter night in order to bring a friend of his a cake as a gift. The cake never makes it to the receiver because it ends up in front of the door of a poor gypsy family.

The festival presents a great opportunity for independent filmmakers – several hundred of whom are expected to attend – to get recognition for their films.
