Ferguson: Berbatov could leave United at end of season

Dimitar Berbatov looks likely to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

The striker, signed for 30.75million pounds sterling by Manchester United in 2008, has found first-team places difficult to come by and is believed to be frustrated by his inactivity.

"At 31, he is looking at first-team football," said Ferguson. "It is difficult for me to guarantee that so it could lead to him looking elsewhere. We will look at the end of the season but until then, he remains at United," said Ferguson.

It is unlikely that United will recoup anything like the huge sum they paid out for the Bulgarian five years ago. Since arriving at Old Trafford he has never quite lived up to expectations although he scored 14 goals in his first season and 12 in his second season.

This season he has been behind Danny Welbeck, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez in the fight for a first-team place.
