US artist Lady Gaga, known best for her outlandish and flamboyant stage costumes at award shows, will perform in Sofia on August 14 2012.

Sofia will be the first stop on Lady Gaga's Born This Way Ball tour, according to an announcement made by the artist via Twitter. The news were later confirmed by local concert organisers Sofia Music Enterprises.

Tickets for the gig will cost between 70 leva and 200 leva, going on sale on April 27, Sofia Music Enterprises said. These can be bought online at ticketpro.bg. The venue is Vassil Levski national stadium.

British band The Darkness, as well as Lady Gaga's long-time collaborator DJ Lady Starlight, will open the concert, according to the organisers.

The European leg of the tour includes concerts in 21 cities in 19 countries, but Sofia and Bucharest (on August 16) will be the only Balkan stops. Surprisingly, Lady Gaga chose to avoid venues in such customary Eastern European countries as Greece, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic or Russia, but included concerts in all three Baltic States.

Lady Gaga is the second big-name artist booked by Sofia Music Enterprises this year, with Red Hot Chili Peppers scheduled to perform at Sofia's Gerena stadium on September 1.
