Two men who allegedly lured women into going to Germany with the promise of legal work but who were instead forced into prostitution were arrested in a special operation in the town of Pleven by Bulgaria’s anti-organised crime squad, the Interior Ministry said on April 26 2012.

The men, aged 47 and 24, both had criminal records, police said. The elder had convictions for theft and vote-buying and the younger for immorality, destruction of property, theft, robbery and vandalism.

Police who searched the homes of the men found photographs of girls, documents related to the purchase and sale of motor vehicles and other evidence allegedly linked to the people-trafficking operation, the Interior Ministry said.
