A 42 million leva (21 million euro) project is expected to solve the problem with waste handling in six municipalities in the region of Veliko Tarnovo, one of Bulgaria's largest cities. The system will include a non-hazardous waste depot, waste sorting and composting installations and several service buildings, which will be located on a 16-hectare plot near the village of Sheremetya. A public procurement procedure for the selection of a contractor was opened a few days ago.
The project has to be completed by the end of 2015. The waste system is financed under the Environment Operative Programme and is part of a larger project for construction of such installations in 12 more regions in the next two years. The total value of the projects is 240 million.
Candidates are required to have a turnover of at least 50 million leva for the past three years, as well as 10 million leva own funds. They have to have carried out at least two similar projects. Offers are accepted until October 3 and will be unsealed on October 10.
