Less than one percent, only 0.6 per cent, of the GDP was allocated for Bulgaria’s culture, Culture Minister Stefan Danailov said at the opening of the theatrical season of Sulza i Smyah (a tear and a smile) Theatre in Sofia
GDP was growing every year and it reached 55 billion leva in 2007, he said as quoted by Focus news agency.
In 2007, between 15 000 and 35 000 leva were allocated for the major theaters in Sofia, Danailov said.
Culture Ministry invested in the construction of a facade of the Smolyan theatre and was to finish reconstruction of the National Opera in Sofia. Some 1.5 million leva had been invested in the reconstruction of the opera in Stara Zagora, which was damaged in a fire.
Nearly six million leva would be invested in cultural monuments in the old Bulgarian capitals of Pliska, Preslav and Veliko Turovo.
Danailov said that he hoped in five years culture would be a priority for the Cabinet.
