Bulgarias Cabinet approved an additional list of areas for protection of natural habitats and wild flora and fauna under Natura 2000, increasing the list to include a total of 28 per cent of Bulgaria's territory.
The list includes 27 protected areas and totals 1.467 billion sq m or 13.21 per cent of the territory of the country.
The newly designated zones excludes living areas, areas with approved an zoning plan and territories of public importance, a Council of ministers press release said.
This list was an addition to the list of protected areas approved in March 2007, Focus news agency said.
The Cabinet postponed the decision on inclusion in the European environmental network Natura 2007 of 29 territories for the autumn of 2007. The 27 areas included in the new list are among the postponed.
The fate of the last two areas will be decided during the next summit of the National Council on Biological Diversity.
With the new list, the total number of the protected areas reaches 295, or 28 per cent of the territory of the country.
