Bulgaria is not facing a crisis situation because of the warm weather and the possibility for a drought during the summer, Agriculture Minister Nihat Kabil said.
A specific set of parametres needs to be observed and if all are available a crisis situation can be declared, he said.
It is ridiculous to warn of a crop crisis now that Bulgaria is EU member state, he said. Such statements only aimed to cause tension.
The situation in the agriculture sector is serious but economic measures could be used to find a way out, he said. The state can provide subsidies to stabilise the situation. Kabil said that he informed the European Commission of the situation in the country.
In case the country needs to provide aid to agriculture producers because of the drought, EC will not impose sanctions, Kabil said.
Crop producers said that the drought will decrease significantly crop production this year. Pleven, Rousse, Lovech, Shoumen, Rousse and Turgovishte regions will be affected the most.
