American companies are interested in the construction of the Belene nuclear power plant. In addition, the US Exim bank is ready to provide credit for such projects. Bulgaria's Economy Minister Roumen Ovcharov said that the American AES will invest 500 million dollars in the modernisation of Maritsa Iztok I thermal plant. Ovcharov also discussed with his American counterpart opportunities for mutual aid on natural disaster management and the identifying and prevention of terrorist acts. Ovcharov is a part of the delegation of Bulgarian President Georgi Purvanov to the US, Dnevnik reported.
In Washington Purvanov presented to American corporations the business and investment conditions in Bulgaria. The major spheres in which Bulgaria welcomes foreign investment are energy, information technologies, army modernisation, tourism and agriculture. Bulgaria was ready to host an American delegation if businessmen decided to examine local conditions, Purvanov said.
