09:00 Thu 25 Jan 2007

Russian company Atomstroyexport, which won the tender for construction of Bulgaria's Belene nuclear power plant (NPP), would select by May 2007 Bulgarian companies to take part in the process.

Bulgarian sub-contractors would be responsible for 30 per cent of the NPP construction, mediapool.bg said.

When signing the preliminary agreement for the NNP cosntruction in November 2006 Atomstroyexport president Sergei Shmatko said that the company would select Bulgarian executive companies by the end of 2006.

The Russian company was still negotiating with the potential executives of the Belene project, a company representative told mediapool.bg.

Financial analysis was needed before the candidates were selected, Atomstroyexport said.

Atomstroyexport would have the companies selected by May 2007 when it would sign the main contract with Bulgarian Electrical Company for the NPP construction.
