A TWELVE-YEAR-OLD boy of Bulgarian descent, David Coneway, has been given a special award by United States president George W. Bush.

The award is given to children who achieved the highest scores over the past three years - 100 per cent in tests in different subjects.

A letter accompanying the award and signed by Bush, says: "Congratulations! Education is one of the nation's priorities. God bless you."

David was born to an American father and a Bulgarian mother from Vidin. David studies in a special programme, called Gate, created especially for gifted children. He won the California children's beauty contest last November. He was also named The Most Photogenic Child and won the audience award for The Most Charming Contestant.

David is the first Bulgarian child to win the contest in the 30-year history of the pageant. He competed against 6000 other children, 25 of whom made the finals.

David has taken part in two Holywood productions - Spy Kids - 3D:Game Over, and The Last Samurai. The first was a children's action movie, directed by Desperado's Robert Rodriguez and starring Antonio Banderas.

The Bulgarian-American boy loves martial arts and basketball. He is studying acting at the Hollywood School for Talented Children, in a class led by Stensy Stokes, one of the most influential casting directors and scouts of young stars.

She discovered and brought to the big screen Leonardo DiCaprio and Keanu Reeves.

Notwithstanding his artistic success, David wants to become a paleontologist or a cartoonist.

David's mother is Nelly Coneway. She has lived in the US since 1997. Before that she was the author and host of the Budo and Samurai sports shows on Bulgarian National Television. At the moment she is a TV producer and journalist based in Los Angeles. She contributes to the Bulgarian newspaper Nedelnik, which is distributed in New York. She produces a show for the biggest California cable TV, Media One. The company that she has founded, also produces an open-air show, called Fire Rite. It was performed for the first time at the Baba Vida Castle on the Danube in her native town of Vidin.
