A spokesman for Tottenham Hotspur striker and Bulgarian national football team captain Dimitar Berbatov disavowed an unofficial biography of the player, Focus news agency reported on April 16.
The book, titled The War on Time and Myself, will hit the shelves in Bulgaria in early May and is already being promoted.
No one had asked Berbatov for permission to write about him, publicist Dimitrina Hodjeva said in a news statement. Berbatov did not have even the slightest participation in the book.
The book presented only the take of its author, Roumen Iliev, on the life and professional development of Bulgaria's three-time footballer of the year. It could not lay any genuine claim to being truthful, Hodjeva said, as quoted by Focus. Berbatov's real biography would be written when he himself decides that the right moment had come, the statement read.
Berbatov is considered one of the top strikers in Europe right now, attracting the interest of major football clubs, such as Manchester United, Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid, making him one of the most sought after footballers according to media reports.
Berbatov’s personal life has also attracted a lot of attention, although he has tried to keep it discreet so far. Recently, British tabloid The Sun has published the claims of a Bulgarian model, who said she had an affair with the striker, but Berbatov has remained silent about it so far.
