Bulgaria was about to conclude negotiations with Russian company Gazprom on amending the transit Russian nature gas contract, Bulgarias Economy and Energy Minister Roumen Ovcharov said, as quoted by Dnevnik daily.
The price of natural gas would not increase drastically, Ovcharov said. Currently the gas price in Bulgaria was 34 per cent lower than in EU countries, he said.
There were two possible outcomes of the negotiations, Ovcharov said, a direct confrontation or a decision acceptable to Bulgaria.
If Bulgaria selected Russian Atomstroyexport for the construction of Belene nuclear power plant (NPP), carried out the Nabucco project and the Bourgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline, this would make Bulgaria dependent on Russia, but Russia would also be dependent on Bulgaria, he said.
The winner of the Belene NPP tender would be selected by the end of October, Ovcharov said. The project would bring investments amounting to four billion euro to the energy sector.
