BULGARIA AND TAJIKISTAN TO IMPROVE RELATIONS
12:29 Thu 06 Sep 2007

The cabinets of Bulgaria and Tajikistan would prepare a new judicial normative base, which could be a good start of the relations between the two countries if accomplished fast, Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin said after meeting Tajikistani president Emomali Rahmon on September 5 2007.

Rahmon invited his Bulgarian counterpart Georgi Purvanov to visit Tajikistan, Focus news agency reported.

The judicial normative base should be ready before Purvanovs visit.

Bulgaria could accredit an ambassador to Tajikistan by the end of 2007, but Kalfin said that there would not be a Bulgarian embassy in the country yet.

Kalfin offered Rahmon, Tajikistani experts, and diplomats to come for training to Bulgaria.

Tajikistan was interested in co-operation with Bulgaria in the fields of combating drug-trafficking, as well as border security. Tajikistan has a long border with Afghanistan, which was guarded by Russian soldiers until two years ago. Currently Tajikistan has to protect its borders by itself.

According to Kalfin, Bulgarian companies could invest in small water power plants in Tajikistan, in attracting foreign investors to the country, or delivering equipment for processing industry.
