Bulgarias state debt reached 6.844 billion euro by the end of 2005.
Out of the total, 5.391 billion euro featured as foreign and 1.453 billion euro represented the internal debt, Bulgarian National Radio reported.
Data for 2006 will be presented in the end of 2007, the Finance Ministry said.
Debt went down by 1.11 billion euro since 2004. Regular payments, change in the nominal value of the debt and currency exchange rate modifications were responsible for the decrease.
From December 2004 to December 2005 the internal portion of the debt went up by four per cent. Foreign debt decreased by 1.194 billion euro because of regular payments to various creditors, the national radio reported.
Debt payments made in 2005 totalled 2.414 billion euro or 990.5 million euro more than the payments made the previous year.
Some of the institutions that Bulgaria owes money to are the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB), the report said.
