Bulgarias electricity export would decrease significantly after 2007, once the country closes down the third and fourth blocks of Kozlodui nuclear power plant, Economy and Energy Minister Roumen Ovcharov said.
The export would decrease to 1.5 billion kilowatt hours, Novinar newspaper reported. This year export would register the record nine billion kilowatt hours, Ovcharov said.
The closure of the two blocks would have negative effect on the countrys economic balance, Ovcharov said. Currently electricity export totals 350 million euro and ensures nearly five per cent of Bulgarias export income, Novinar reported.
Ovcharov said that the closure was also going to have negative consequences for the National Electric Company (NEC) since it already worked with zero profit to minimise the price increase for end consumers.
The construction of Belene nuclear power plant was going to counter the negative effects related to the closure of the two reactors, said Ovcharov.
