The state and taxpayers currently sponsor Toplofikatsiya Sofia, Economy and Energy Minister Petar Dimitrov said. He acknowledged in Parliament on October 5 that the only way for Toplofikatsiya Sofia to be saved was through privatisation.
When a privatisation would happen was not clear, Za Grada said. The state is a minority owner, with 42 per cent. Majority owner is the Sofia municipality.
Clients owe almost 200 million leva to the company, while the company has an unpaid bill of over 150 million leva for natural gas.
Dimitor said, that there was a memorandum with the European Bank for recovery and progress towards the selection of a consultant for the privatisation of Toplofikatsiya Sofia. We expect to have a solution before the end of the mandate, he added.
