COURT HALTED INSTALLATION OF NEW MAYOR IN BULGARIA'S STARA ZAGORA
12:47 Tue 13 Nov 2007 - Rene Beekman

The newly elected mayor of Bulgaria's Stara Zagora, Svetlin Tanchev, would not be allowed to take the oath as mayor on November 14, Focus new agency said.

The administrative court stopped the procedure for Tanchev to start his work as mayor until November 19, while it examines the complaint tabled by outgoing mayor Evgenii Zjelev.

Tanchev, who's candidature was supported by Citizen for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB), won in the second round of municipal elections.

After the second round, Zjelev filed a complaint citing numerous violations.

The administrative court granted Zjelev's request and halted the installation of Tanchev as mayor.

The decision could be appealed at the High Administrative Court within seven days.
