The fourth edition of the international film and TV programmes festival “Green Wave – 21st Century” will take place on June 4-6 in the town of Koprivshtitsa, about 100km east of Sofia. The festival features movies and TV programmes with English subtitles, dedicated to environmental protection.
The film screenings are free of charge and will be at the town's community centre Palaveev, built in 1869, and at the old SS Kiril and Metodii school, which dates back to 1837. The festival is organised by the foundation European Environmental Festival and will take place under the auspices of Bulgaria’s Vice-president Angel Marin.
The festival programme features 79 productions of movie and TV companies from 24 countries from Europe, Asia, South America and US.
The 2008 issue of Green Wave will focus on problems related to the global significance and connection between the environment and the energy production, as well as the consequences leading to global warming. German journalist Manfred Ladwig will present his newest movie Poison at The Market, produced by German broadcaster ARD, which is an investigation in the filed of genetically-modified food.
During the days of the festival, the guests may also visit the exhibition The River – A Source Of Inspiration by the Serbian photographer Nikola Vukicevic, while children can take part in an asphalt painting contest. On July 5, the festival participants will again take part in a tree planting initiative in the Festival Park with saplings provided by the State Forestry Agency.
A new event during the days of the festival is an eco-badminton competition organised by the Bulgarian Badminton Federation, which will take place on July 4 from 1pm to 5pm.
