Bulgaria finally defeated Finland at the fourth time of asking in their World League qualifying pool on July 13, securing the runner-up spot behind the United States. Bulgaria will host the US, which has already won pool B, in Varna for the final two matches of the qualifying on July 18 and 19. Bulgaria would not feature at the World League final tournament, which will be hosted at the end of July by Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, because the organisers gave the wild card to Japan.
