In order to make up for study hours lost to the teachers' strike, school directors in Sofia were proposing to prolong the first semester with either two or four weeks.
This said Vanya Kastreva, head of the municipal regional inspection for eduction, as quoted by ZaGrada.
Besides cutting holidays short, these were the two variants currently discussed, she said.
Under the first variant, the first semester would end mid February 2008, under the second, end of that month. Professional schools had a preference for the second variant as some of the material was not covered in the second semester and first semester grades would count towards end-of-year grades, Kastreva said.
It was not clear yet if the school year would have to be prolonged, she added.
We keep collecting proposals and on November 12 we will give a summary to Education Minister Daniel Vulchev.
A week after that, a meeting with heads of the inspectorates was expected, where a decision would be taken on how to proceed, Kastreva said.
Out of 233 state and municipal schools in Sofia, 173 had taken part in the strike for six weeks, 59 for five weeks, and only one school in Bankya had not been on strike at all, the municipal inspectorate said.
