Sofia and the Black Sea city of Varna will each open ice skating rinks on December 3 2008, the two city halls said. Sofia will have its ice rink opening ceremony at 5.30pm. Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov and Josef Vinatzer, CEO of the ring sponsor, Bulgaria's first mobile operator Mobiltel, will preside over its opening.
The rink will be in Ariana lake in Borisovata Gradina park next to the Orlov Most (Eagles' bridge) cross section. It will be open 24 hours a day. The price for one hour will be three leva a person. Students will skate for free every day between 8am and 10am. By December 15 2008 the city hall plans to have all the other facilities of the Ariana lake winter park ready. These will included a snowboard ramp and an artificial ski run.
In Varna the city hall will open its second ice skating rink. This will happen at 6.30pm in the city's Morska Gradina (Sea garden park) in the garden's lake next to the Summer Theatre. The price for 30 minutes will be three leva a person, the same price people pay at the first ice skating rink in Varna in the city's Mladost neighbourhood that opened earlier in the year.
In other news Varna will spend a total of 600 000 leva on Christmas decorations. In the past couple of years the city has earned a reputation of being not only the best city in Bulgaria to live in but also the city with the most beautiful Christmas decorations. The lights on the city's Christmas tree will be turned illuminated on December 5 2008.
