Five Bulgarians, independent of any organisation, foundation or charity group, have decided to make the Christmas season merrier for children at three social care homes in Kyustendil and Zlatitsa.
Svetla Lazarova, Tihomir Todorov, Atanas Arabadjiev, Dimitar Varadinov and Emiliya Chopeva have been hitting up friends and colleagues for warm clothing, healthy food, baby supplies, books, paints, markers and nappies to donate to the orphanages, a December 3 2008 press release from DD Agency read. On December 6, from 10am to noon, the action goes national – in front of Sofia's Ivan Vazov National Theatre, with anyone who so desires being able to donate clothing (clean and in good condition), linens, toys, books and whatever other necessary supplies could be of use to children between the ages of newborn and 18 years old.
The collected items will be given to the Home for Medical-Social Care and the Home for Pre-School Children in Kyustendil and the Home for Medical-Social Care in Zlatitsa. Clothing for children over seven years old will be donated to the foundation Universum and to the Bulgarian Mothers Movement (Bg-Mamma), who will then distribute the items to appropriate orphanages in Berkovitsa, Belogradchik and Bratsigovo.
