INFLATION IN BULGARIA IN FIRST HALF OF 2007 WAS FIVE PER CENT

Inflation in Bulgaria was five per cent for the period from January to June 2007, as compared to the same period in 2006, National Statistical Institute (NSI) data showed.

Inflation for the same period, but compared to the December 2006 rates, reached two per cent. The level of inflation June 2007 was 5.6 per cent compared to June 2006, investor.bg reported.

The consumer price index for June 2007 decreased by 0.4 per cent to 99.6, in comparison to the May 2007 figures.

Food prices decreased by 1.3 per cent in June from May 2007 levels. Non-food products prices rose by 0.1 per cent and services prices increased by 0.2 per cent.

Potatoes, potato products, fresh and frozen vegetables and eggs saw the biggest price decrease among foodstuffs. 

Fruit prices rose 4.9 per cent and poultry by 3.7 per cent in June.

In the non-foodstuffs group, diesel prices increased by 3.7 per cent, liquid fuel prices went up by 3.4 per cent, furniture and accommodation maintenance and repairs by 0.8 per cent.
