The closure of Kremikovtzi metal processing plant would lead to a governmental crisis, Kremikovtzi management board chairman Alexander Tomov told local Inforadio.
The eco-programme of the plant envisioned and end to pollution from the plant in 2009, he said.
According to Tomov, the interest of construction companies and investors in real estate had caused an interest in the closure of Kremikovtzi.
Land prices in the Kremikovtzi area would rise significantly, he said as quoted by investor.bg.
In the end of 2007, Bulgarias Economy and Energy Ministry said that the closure of the plant was inadmissible and that Kremikovtzi was very important for the economic development of the country.
Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov and Sofia's chief architect Petar Dikov have repeatedly said that the closure of Kremikovtzi would create opportunities for its replacement with housing blocks and multi-functional buildings.
