The low standards of living lead to under-qualification of Bulgarias tourism staff, head of the Varna hospitality association Dimitar Lefterov said.
The tendency is becoming increasingly worrying, Lefterov said. Bulgaria misses mainly employees having specialised high school and college education.
Such shortage has been existing over the past two or three years, Lefterov told Focus news agency.
Almost all schools and universities in Bulgaria offer specialised hospitality courses but most people that graduate prefer to travel and work abroad, Lefterov said. The sector in other countries offers much higher salaries than the ones in Bulgaria.
The issue becomes more pressing as Bulgarias accommodation capacity increases each year, Lefterov said. New hotels offer hundreds of additional beds and the hospitality sector urgently needs to find proper staff.
