Macedonia values the defence co-operation with Bulgaria, Macedonian army chief of general staff Miroslav Stojanovski said during a meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart Zlatan Stoikov.
A Bulgarian colonel currently works at the NATO headquarters in Skopje, Stojanovski said. The Bulgarian is also active in his interactions with the Macedonian defence ministry, he said.
The co-operation made possible the selection of a Bulgarian general as the head of the NATO headquarters in Skopje, Stojanovski said as quoted by Focus news agency.
Negative attitude towards such decision was missing in Macedonia, Stojanovski said. Macedonia, as a host country, played small role in the selection of NATO staff to represent the alliance in the country.
Interaction between Bulgaria and Macedonia were one thing and NATO decisions were another, Stojanovski said.
Stojanovski said that he would support any decision that receives the approval of both NATO and Bulgaria.
