Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson had “stepped up his efforts to sign Tottenham's Dimitar Berbatov,” Man United’s official website said.
Ferguson had offered six million pounds and two players, Wes Brown and Louis Saha, for the Bulgarian striker, manutd.com quoted the Daily Mail as reporting.
Ferguson wanted to attract Berbatov in the January transfer window, after failing with his initial bid in the summer.
“The Manchester United manager refuses to be put off, and is now hoping Berbatov's recent unrest at White Hart Lane will smooth the path to a move,” manutd.com said.
Meanwhile, Tottenham wanted United’s winger Nani to be included in any possible deal for Berbatov.
