BULGARIAN left winger Martin Petrov completed a 10 million euro trade from Germany’s WFL Wolfsburg to Spain’s Atletico.
Atletico officially presented Petrov on Tuesday, after he signed a three-year contract with the Madrid team.  
The negotiations between the two football clubs had been going on for more than a month and at one point it seemed almost certain that the trade would not be completed.
Petrov had been part of WFL Wolfsburg for four seasons, finishing last season with the most goals and goal assists on his team. He was directly involved in more than 60 per cent of goals the German team scored during the past year.
The midfielder gave a press conference at Vicente Calderon stadium after he was officially presented to the media and fans as an Atletico player.
“I want to thank the Atletico officials for having the patience and putting in so much effort into bringing me here,” he said. “Most importantly, I am already an Atletico player, I want to stay here for as much as I can, and prove that I deserve to be part of the team. This club has a great tradition in the history of football and I will do everything to meet its expectations. I am glad people are comparing me with Hristo Stoichkov, but my name is Martin Petrov.”
“I hope that Petrov will perform well at the club and will stay many years with us,” Toni Munoz, sports director at Atletico, said.
