World figure skating champion Maxim Staviski was under the influence of alcohol when his Hummer collided with two other cars, killing one person and critically injuring a second, Russian daily Pravda alleged.
Staviski, who walked away from the accident unharmed, could face charges in connection with the collision, which happened late on August 5, on a bridge near the Bulgarian coastal town of Bourgas.
Blood tests showed that Staviski had drunk alcohol before the accident, and at the moment he was alleged by authorities to have been at fault. Russia’s RIA Novosti said that Staviski's blood alcohol concentration at the time of the accident was 1.1 g/1000 ml.
Bulgarian police reports said that Staviski was speeding, and was driving on the wrong side of the road.
An investigation is continuing.
