The Bulgarian Regional Development and Public Works Ministry is ready to start its operational programme for regional development for the period from 2007 to 2013.
The main task of the programme is to improve quality of life and the working environment through provision of easier access to main services and opportunities to increase regional competitiveness, Focus news agency reported.
The programme is under the supervision of the Regional Development and Public Works Ministry and its budget is more than 1.6 billion euro. The European Commission is expected to approve the programme in September 2007.
The first part of the programme will focus on repairs to and renovation of schools, social institutions, cultural centres and libraries.
The second part will involve reconstruction of second and third-class roads, transport connections improvement, access provision to ports, airports and refuse depots.
