The opposition put forward in Parliament a draft decision for the formation of an ad hoc inquiry committee for a parliamentary investigation into the Interior Ministry's actions in fighting organised crime involved in drug production and trafficking and of the Budimir Kujović case in particular, Dnevnik daily said.
The draft decision was put forward on January 15. It was signed by 48 members of parliament among which members of the parliamentary groups of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), United Democratic Forces (UtDF), Ataka, Bulgarian New Democracy (BND), Bulgarian People's Union (BPU) and independent members of parliament.
Proposed was that the committee would be elected for a term of 2 months and be composed of 9 members of parliament. The chairman should be an opposition representative.
According to the draft decision, the committee would have to investigate the Interior Ministry's policy in finding the organisers, producers and dealers of synthetic drugs, Dnevnik daily reported. The committee should find out whether there was an adopted strategy, planned operations, achieved results, conclusions and analyses as well as any data for the political protection of drug production and trade.
The committee would have to investigate what information was collected on Serbian citizen Budimir Kujović after his extradition from Bulgaria and what was the information that was the reason for the so called “operative combination” and for the illegal issuing of a Bulgarian passport to a person who had been banned from entering Bulgaria.
The opposition insisted that the committee investigate what legislation breaches had been made by Interior Ministry officials and that it propose to the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister specific measures in fighting drug trafficking, Dnevnik daily said.
