Politics

- Under the headline "The coalition moves furniture around", the Bulgarian daily Dnevnik reports that the Government will have one additional deputy prime-minister and four new ministers. Ministries to see changes are the interior, health, agriculture and defence ministries.

- Bulgarian daily Sega reports that two of the new ministers have the support of Bulgarian President Georgi Purvanov. When Purvanov was head of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, now deputy prime minister without portfolio Meglena Plougchieva, who will personally supervise and control the spending of European Union funds, was Purvanov's connection with then Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schröder, Sega says.

- Bulgarian daily 24 Chasa quoted Petar Moskov from the opposition Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria as saying that the cabinet reshuffle amounted to a "restructure of the positions of organised crime in power".

Economics

- Inaccurate data about the expected number of foreign tourists leads to over-construction, Roumen Draganov, head of the control council of the tourism board, is quoted as saying by 24 Chasa.

- Bulgarian financial daily Pari reported that small and medium enterprises with a turnover of less than 19.5 million leva and up to 50 people staff, will have to buy electricity on the free market after July 1. According to Pari, companies will end up paying double the current price for electricity.

Society

- On the occasion of Earth Day, Economy Minister Dzjevdet Chakurov quoted figures from research by Gallup International, saying that Bulgaria was among the countries whose citizens take the least action in everyday life to preserve the environment.

- Bulgarian daily Monitor reported that in a bid to fight corruption by road police officers, proposed changes in the law foresee their replacement by cameras and computer systems which will record and fine traffic violations.

- Teachers of 31 schools throughout Bulgaria will start entering all grades, as well as absentees and remarks, on personal laptops, from which they will be sent to the website of the education ministry, Bulgarian daily Standart reported. Parents can view the results of their children on the ministry’s website, Education Minister Daniel Vulchev said.

- Twenty-five day old baby Emir in the village of Leshtak will be the owner of a water-tower. The tower is a present from the local mayor. Emir was born on March 27 and is the fifth child of Mehmed and Miroslava Vulnevi, a local record, 24 Chasa
