- The Foreign Ministry has resolved the issue regarding the statement of Russian ambassador to the European Union, Vladimir Chizhov, that should the EU decide to impose sanctions on Russia for the conflict in Georgia, Bulgaria will impose a veto on the decision, Dnevnik daily said, reporting on the September 29 meeting of Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Milen Keremedchiev with Russian ambassador to Bulgaria Yurii Isakov and the former's statements following it that the issue is settled.

- The date on which the Bulgarian Socialist Party is going to convene its 47th congress will be decided on at a plenum of the party to be held on October 4, Monitor daily said, quoting party sources, and added that the congress, which takes place every three years and has the right to change the party leadership, is expected to be held between November 10 and 20.

- Bulgaria signed the European Heart Health Chart, Dnevnik daily said, reporting on the September 29 signing of the document by Bulgarian Health Minister Evgenii Zhelev.

Economy

- The Bulgarian economists are no longer arguing about whether there will be an economic fall-off in Bulgaria in 2009, but about how big the fall-off will be, Sega daily said, reporting on the results of a conference on the consequences of the world financial crisis in Bulgaria, organised by the national Movement for Stability and Progress.

- The eye of the financial storm moved to Europe, Dnevnik daily said, reporting of the wave of bank nationalisations that has flooded the continent.
